“Elegant Threads” celebrates wearable and nonwearable fiber arts, bringing together an array of creations by artists. Also showcased are masterpieces from internationally renowned artists such as Bisa Butler and Lezley Saar (on loan from the private collection of Beth Rudin DeWoody) and sculptures created by the Palm Beach artist Muriel Kaplan.
Traditionally defined as “woman’s work”, and historically given little recognition, the field of fiber arts has finally come into its own. Every day we wrap our bodies and our homes in comfort and color, yet this has become so familiar that we’ve taken for granted the experience. Elegant Threads provides the opportunity for us to interact with the imaginations, craftsmanship, and patience represented by these artists who celebrate their profound understanding of the comfort derived from beautiful fiber in our lives.
The original call to artists asked for images of work that loosely incorporated “fiber” in wearable art, non-wearable art, and surface design. These categories left the definition open to interpretation, and the exhibition featuring hundreds of pieces, began to weave itself into focus. As the applicants responded, we poured of the breathtaking photos of their work with the knowledge that Lighthouse Art Center would have another season opening blockbuster exhibition to showcase.
The exhibition includes a full color, 152 page catalog which can be seen HERE
